On 28 March, powerful 7.7 and 6.4 magnitude earthquakes struck central Myanmar, devastating regions including Mandalay, Sagaing, and Nay Pyi Taw.Homes, hospitals, and schools lie in ruins. Phone and internet services are down. Thousands have died, and many remain missing.
UN Women is prioritizing the protection of women and girls affected by the Myanmar earthquake. In close partnership with local women-led and women’s rights organizations, we are ensuring that relief efforts are rapid, unimpeded, and gender-responsive. Together, we will be distributing food, clean water, hygiene kits, and clothing; delivering urgent, life-saving assistance where it’s needed most.
