Lebanon is in crisis. The ongoing conflict has left over one million people internally displaced with devastating consequences for women and girls. 2,792 people killed (75% male, 19% female and 6% children) and 12,772 injured (74% male, 18% female and 8% children) . With shelters at full capacity, safety and dignity are on the line.
Women and girls at greater risk
- 520,000 displaced women, of which 12,000 are heading households, now face immense risk and responsibilities.
- 82% of shelters are filled to capacity, leaving women and girls vulnerable to exploitation and violence.
- Increased responsibility and unpaid care role for women, especially in women headed households
- Marginalized groups, including older women, women heads of households, women living with disabilities, displaced Syrian and Palestinian refugees and migrant domestic workers are at higher risk.

UN Women’s plan for expanded support in Lebanon
As the crisis rapidly escalates, UN Women is committed to intensifying our humanitarian response over the next year:
- Deliver critical, life-saving services and essentials to women and girls, and family members in shelters and host communities, including essential information, trainings, livelihoods and provision of relief items such as hot meals, dignity kits, clothing items, winterization and emergency cash assistance.
- Provide targeted protection services to women and girls, offering gender-based violence (GBV) case management, psychosocial support, legal aid, referrals to service providers, GBV training for shelter managers, and awareness on GBV and sexual exploitation and abuse.
- Offer cash-for-work opportunities, helping women rebuild livelihoods while supporting their communities through services like food provision, waste management, and relief item distribution.
- Strengthen partnerships with frontline women-led organizations to ensure an effective community-based response and mitigating triggers for increasing community tensions.
Our goal is to directly reach over 90,000 women and girls and scale up partnerships with 205 women led organization to deliver effectively on the stated commitments.
