Empowering women in the economy is key to reaching gender equality and fulfilling the promise of the Sustainable Development Goals. Not everyone benefits equally from economic growth in Asia and the Pacific. Still today, women face discrimination, violence in the home, public spaces and in the workplace, and are not equally represented in leadership roles. Women own fewer businesses than men, often work in vulnerable jobs, take on the greatest burden of care and domestic work, and are left behind without sufficient financing.
UN Women works across 100+ countries, including Asia and the Pacific, to ensure women can contribute fully to their communities, economies, and societies. UN Women’s Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific serves 42 countries, supporting gender equality efforts at the local, regional and global level in partnership with activists, grassroots groups, the private sector, governments and philanthropy.
